The Arts

In conjunction with the Vermont Arts Exchange, a studio-based arts program, the Bennington School Art Program occupies a large studio and workshop in the quaint village of North Bennington. Under the director of well-known artist and educator Matthew Perry, students explore their creativity in a variety of mediums. Through traditional lessons and independent projects, students experience opportunities with drama, music, painting, sculpture, photography, woodworking and various crafts.  Professionals at the studio teach acceptance of peer artistic criticism as well as the importance of completing artistic projects to exhibit.

Art exhibitions have been held in Bennington art galleries and at the Bennington Museum.Image Students are encouraged to become involved in the intergenerational art class. This class matches both students and senior citizens in the community. Together, throught art, they discover their cultures, histories and personalities. Class trips are often taken to area galleries and museums to view art as well as visit working artists’ studios. There, students meet the artist and view art in the making. The artist-in-residence program has brought in a wide range of artists to perform and hold workshop for the students.

At Bennington School, we encourage students to express themselves in their art. Those expressions, channeled within their respective disciplines, often produce some fascinating art forms. While creating the art, students often discover something about themselves as well.
